What to configure first

Start with source coverage. Routing is only as good as the signal underneath it, so make sure the calls, tickets, reviews, and onboarding notes that matter are connected — gaps there show up as missed or misrouted themes. Then map your ownership model: which team owns which category of signal, and which destination each routes to. Set the confidence and exposure thresholds that decide what routes automatically versus what waits for a person — start conservative and loosen as you trust the classification. Decide where human sign-off is mandatory, typically high-exposure or ambiguous themes. Finally, agree what "complete" means for a routed action so tracking reflects real follow-through, not just that something was opened.

Where this breaks down

Ambiguous ownership in your org

If two teams genuinely share a category and there is no agreed default, NEXT will route to your configured owner — but a fuzzy ownership model produces fuzzy routing. Fix the model first.

Thin or skewed source coverage

If most signal comes from one channel or one segment — as with the SMB gap in the example — routing reflects that bias. The classification can look confident while resting on a narrow slice of customers.

A vague theme

A theme that customers describe inconsistently gets a weaker classification, and weak classification means weaker routing. These are the cases worth holding for a person rather than routing automatically.

Treating routing as resolution

NEXT routes and tracks pickup; it does not do the work. If routed actions are opened and then ignored, the bottleneck is capacity or prioritization, not routing — and no classification fixes that.

How is this different from a triage dashboard?

A dashboard shows you volumes — how many tickets, how many calls — and waits for you to interpret them. It does not tell you which team should own a theme or send it there. NEXT classifies each new theme by owner, routes it to where that team works, and tracks whether the action was picked up. The work of deciding owner and destination is done before you look.

Does NEXT decide what we act on?

No. NEXT classifies themes, routes them to the right team, and attaches the demand context and affected accounts. The decision to act, how to prioritize it against other work, and what "done" looks like all stay with the team that owns the category. You can also require human sign-off on high-exposure or low-confidence themes before anything is assigned.

What happens when a signal touches more than one team?

Themes that span teams are exactly the ones that stall today. NEXT can route the same theme to multiple owners with the same affected-account list, so product and CX, for example, start from one shared picture rather than two reconstructions. You configure which categories fan out to more than one destination.

How do we stop low-quality signal from being routed?

You set confidence and exposure thresholds. Themes below your threshold, or ones the classification marks as thin or contradicted, can be held for a person to confirm before they are routed anywhere. This reduces low-value routing through calibration — it does not claim to remove every weak match, so plan to tune the thresholds over the first few weeks.

Can we keep our existing ownership model?

Yes — that is the point. NEXT routes against the ownership model you already use: which team owns which category, and which destination each maps to. If your model is unclear or contested, fix that first; the routing will mirror whatever rules you give it. You can update the routing rules as ownership changes, and the routing updates with them.
